Guidelines for Installing Windows 10 on a Mac with Bootcamp

Note: These models do not support Boot Camp: MacBook Air M1, 2020 / MacBook Pro 13', M1, 2020 / Mac mini M1, 2020 / iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021. Also, any Apple devices equipped with an M1 chip are incompatible.

To verify whether you can install Windows 10, undertake the following steps:

  1. Tap the Apple logo in the menu bar.
  2. Choose About this Mac to review your system details.
Note: On Macs with Intel processors, you'll see Processor listed. On Macs showing the Apple logo, Chip will be displayed.

Execute the ensuing actions:

Verify Available Software Updates

Note: Prior to Windows installation, ensure all macOS updates are completed.
  1. Access the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen and opt for System Preferences.
  2. Hit Software Update.
  3. If no updates are present, a notification will confirm that your system is current.
Note: The system automatically checks for updates. Allow a few moments for the check to finalize. If updates are found, select Update now and adhere to the instructions to download and install them.
Note: Should your Mac reboot post-update, access Software Update again to apply any remaining updates.

Prepare Your Mac for Windows Setup

The Boot Camp Assistant configures your Mac by creating a new partition named BOOTCAMP and downloading necessary support software.

Note: Connect your portable Mac to a power source before continuing if applicable.
  1. Insert your USB drive into the Mac and search for Boot Camp using the search feature in the top right corner.
  2. Navigate to Boot Camp Assistant > Applications > Utilities.
  3. At the introduction screen, press Continue.
  4. Confirm all selections and click Continue.
  5. Locate the Windows 10 .iso file you have downloaded and the USB drive you intend to use for the installation media.
  6. Adjust the space allocation for Windows by modifying the partition slider and select Install.
  7. Note: Once set, the partition size is fixed and cannot be altered.
  8. Your Mac will reboot to commence the installation of Windows 10.

Installing Boot Camp Drivers in Windows

Upon successful installation of Windows, Boot Camp drivers that are compatible with your Mac will start installing.

  1. Follow the prompts in the Boot Camp installer within Windows.
  2. Note: Avoid pressing the Cancel button during any part of the installation.
    Note: If alerted that the software being installed hasn't passed the Windows logo test, choose Continue.
    Note: It's not necessary to respond to all installer dialogues that may appear temporarily. However, if prompted to install device software, select Install. Check for any hidden windows if the process stalls.
  3. Upon completing the installation, click Finish.
  4. After your device reboots, comply with any further installation prompts that appear.
